Timeline · The Futureverse → community handover

The Root Network changed hands in September–October 2025. Futureverse, the company that incubated TRN and ran the bulk of its core infrastructure, entered a receivership process. The network itself did not. The chain has continued to produce blocks, NFTs continue to settle, the FuturePass pallet continues to authorise transactions, and the XRPL bridge has resumed flow after a stuck-transaction window in mid-October. What changed is who is running the seats — and how the runtime, the SDKs, and the operational glue are governed going forward.

This page is here so that someone arriving at TRN today knows what the last eight months looked like, who the actors are, and what's plausibly next. It cites the public statements that anchor each event. None of this is a guarantee of future behaviour — it's a record of what was said by whom, when.

Headline

The Root Network is now operated by a community of independent stewards, with TRN Labs taking on the role Futureverse previously held in maintaining core infrastructure. Validator operations have widened to include third parties such as Gen3Labs. The runtime and SDKs are being progressively open-sourced. There is no remaining Futureverse affiliation with the @TheRootNetwork account or the network's day-to-day operation.

Events

August 25, 2025 — TRN Odyssey program launches

TRN Labs opens a program to onboard builders and games into the ecosystem. Public projects accepted into the program are highlighted on the TRN Labs channels.

Source: TRN Labs (X/Twitter), Aug 25, 2025 — "Since launching TRN Odyssey, we've welcomed an inspiring group of builders into our ecosystem."

September 26, 2025 — TRN Labs brings up a validator

TRN Labs publicly confirms running a validator on TRN. Framed as part of the broader work to widen the operator set.

September 30, 2025 — Network independence from Futureverse receivership

The @TheRootNetwork account states that The Root Network will remain independent of the Futureverse receivership process. Notes that core protocol components — the NFI pallet and Sylo — are open source, with more code to be pushed to public repositories.

Source: @TheRootNetwork (X/Twitter), Sep 30, 2025 — "The Root Network will remain independent of the Futureverse receivership process. The software and protocols including the NFI pallet and Sylo are open source and we will add further code to the open-source repos in the coming days for developers who wish to continue using and building on TRN."

October 6, 2025 — Gen3Labs validators online

Mark Ibanez (Gen3Labs) brings up the first two Gen3Labs validators, gen3-eu-1 and gen3-eu-2, with more announced to come online throughout October. Framed as decentralisation effort during the handover.

Source: Mark Ibanez (X/Twitter), Oct 6, 2025 — "We've just spun up our first two core validator nodes on @TheRootNetwork — gen3-eu-1 and gen3-eu-2 — with more coming online throughout the month."

October 7, 2025 — "A New Chapter" — TRN Labs takes over core infrastructure

TRN Labs publishes the formal statement of the handover. TRN Labs takes on responsibility for the core infrastructure that Futureverse previously operated. Shen (Futureverse) confirms the hand-over is in progress and that the priority is ensuring no user loses access to any of their assets.

Source: TRN Labs (X/Twitter), Oct 7, 2025 — "TRN Labs Statement: A New Chapter."

Source: Shen (X/Twitter), Oct 7, 2025 — "It's been a wild journey that has led to this point, but we are now focused on working closely with @TRNLabs in the hand-over of the core infrastructure of @TheRootNetwork from @futureverse. This hand-over is essential because it makes sure that no user loses access to any of [their assets]."

October 9, 2025 — @TheRootNetwork Twitter cut from Futureverse

The TRN account explicitly notes it no longer has any affiliation with Futureverse and is community-run.

Source: @TheRootNetwork (X/Twitter), Oct 9, 2025 — "Pls note - This account no longer has any affiliation with Futureverse. It is completely community-run, like The Root Network 🤝"

October 17, 2025 — XRPL ↔ TRN bridge stuck-transaction sweep

Shen confirms that all stuck transactions from the bridge issues of the previous days have been processed (with a DM offer for any user still missing funds). The underlying cause — an infrastructure edge case — was identified but flagged as needing more time to fully fix.

Forward-looking — what the stewards have stated

Pulled directly from the public posts above. Where the public statements are vague, this section is vague too; nothing here is a roadmap commitment.

  • More validator capacity. Gen3Labs flagged additional validators coming online through October 2025 and beyond. The implicit goal is a wider, more independent operator set.
  • More code on public repos. TRN's Sep 30 statement promised "further code" to be added to the open-source repos "in the coming days for developers who wish to continue using and building on TRN." Watch the GitHub orgs for TRN and TRN Labs for ongoing pushes.
  • XRPL bridge stability. Shen flagged that the bridge fix is non-trivial and will take longer than the stuck-transaction sweep. Expect iterative improvement, not a single cut-over.
  • TRN Odyssey continues. The Odyssey program for builders/games appears unaffected by the handover — TRN Labs continues to onboard projects (Imaginus referenced on Sep 30 as an example).

What this page deliberately doesn't claim

  • Specific future dates. None of the public statements above commit to a calendar. Dates beyond October 2025 in this document would be invention.
  • A roadmap of features. This is a steward-and-operations timeline, not a runtime-feature roadmap. For the latter, see /changelog (chain releases) and the individual feature pages under /concepts/features/.
  • Governance details. "Community-run" is the framing used by @TheRootNetwork and TRN Labs. Concrete governance mechanics — proposal flow, treasury control, validator slashing policy — are not described in the cited statements. As those harden, this page will be updated.
